Food For Thought: The Supreme Court and the Jews

Looking at important decisions from the last year through a Jewish lens. Aside from the three Jews currently serving on the Supreme Court, the court is both deeply informed by Jewish perspectives and makes decisions that have direct impact on the lives of Jewish Americans. We will take a close look at some of those decisions and try to understand whether they resonate with Jewish values, both ancient and modern.

We will discuss:

• Lethal Injection

• Same-sex marriage

• Pollution limits

• Religious signs and free speech

• The Confederate flag and free speech

• Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the separation of powers in foreign affairs

• Employment discrimination

• Religious freedom in prison
